Alton’s town centre has been gradually changing as the nature of retail has changed. We now have a Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Iceland.

Whilst supermarkets are a potential threat to our town centre economy, Alton Town Council and Alton Chamber of Commerce are involved with re-establishing a town management organisation to promote, improve and enliven the town centre.

Alton already has a programme of town centre events, some drawing many thousands of people, so this success will be developed to encourage more visitors and shoppers.
