Alton Chamber of Commerce & Industry has been supporting local businesses since 1909. We are a ‘town chamber’, one of many smaller Chambers of Commerce that represent a local area. Our task is to give businesses in the locality a voice and do all we can to support and promote them.
We hold regular meetings where you can meet like-minded businesspeople to network and socialise. We also have an email newsletter where members can write, allowing you to get your business known in the area.
The Chamber is managed by a committee of volunteers who are charged with running and developing the Chamber. We keep our costs low by not having any offices, allowing us to use the members’ subscriptions to do other things to help our cause. We currently have a trading arm called Alton Chamber Enterprises Ltd. which is used to run the town events and sell merchandise to help provide further funds for events.
Our core activities are regular networking events, our email newsletter, selling merchandise to help promote the town and lobbying. The latter covers making issues known to relevant bodies (usually councils and government) as well as partnership-working. We regularly work on projects and issues with Alton Town Council, but also with East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council. Many people find these various layers of local government confusing, so we are here both as a source of information for members as well as a mouthpiece for your concerns.
For those seeking a greater range of services, such as export documentation, there is the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce with offices in Basingstoke, Winchester and Southampton.
