Business Development Manager Appointed For Alton

Julie McLatch Business Development in AltonA newly-appointed business expert will be working to make Alton a better place to do business.

Alton Town Council and East Hampshire District Council have appointed Julie McLatch as a Business Development Manager for the town.

Julie will be visiting local businesses to understand what they like about working in Alton and discuss their concerns about the future.

Her role has been specifically created by the two councils to attract investment and promote economic growth in Alton.

Julie has years of experience in business development, having headed up the marketing and business development function at a law firm in Basingstoke.

Julie said: “I’m delighted to be joining the team in Alton. I grew up here and am passionate that it retains its charm and vibrancy while still being a great place to set up a business and to work. The town has changed a great deal during my life, and I am looking forward to working with the local businesses to ensure that commercial enterprises will choose to set up and stay here in the future”.

I’ve held a similar role for the last three years with Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, to help shape the agenda for a better town centre and focus on what businesses need to thrive in the area, and what their visitors would like to see to make them visit more often and stay for longer. The great amount that I learned during that process will be invaluable in my new role.”

Cllr Dean Phillips, EHDC’s new Portfolio Holder for Alton and Deputy Mayor on Alton Town Council, said: “Julie has a great track record in business development and really knows and loves the town, so she is the perfect person to help local businesses in Alton thrive. We are delighted to have her working alongside the Alton Town Council team at the Town Hall”.

Economic Development in Alton is a key action arising from the Neighbourhood Plan process and East Hampshire District Council is committed to becoming one of most business-friendly councils in the country, so I am really pleased both councils can work together to help realise these aspirations.”
