The Chamber does quite a few different things, not all are obvious. They are by no means the limit of what we do, and we are certainly prepared to expand into new areas of activities as and when we see fit.
From time to time we hold networking events, visits to local businesses and activities with other local business groups, such as the Alresford Chamber of Commerce and Alton4Business.
Part of our role is to lobby organisations on specific issues that have been raised by members. Recent examples of lobbying were the objection to the Saturday markets, establishing the official status of A boards and keeping the outdoor seating licences to a reasonable limit.
One of the Chamber’s tasks is to work with various organisations, including local councils, to help achieve common goals. It is also to our benefit to develop long-term working relationships. In the past, the Chamber played a role in establishing Alton Initiatives management Ltd. and was one of the partners in the Alton Town Partnership.
More recently, we were involved in the Town Council’s consultation regarding the projects proposed for the future Tesco S106 windfall and Alton’s Neighbourhood Plan.
